Moving Abroad Checklist

If you’re moving overseas, you might feel a little stressed out about all the things you need to do before the big day. It’s harder than moving within your own country because you have to deal with immigration, customs, shipping, and a lot more. That’s why it’s important to have a good plan in place.

3-4 Weeks

Once you agree to the moving company’s quote, you’ll need to start planning everything else.

# Friends and Family – Now that everything is set, it’s time to let your family and friends know where you’ll be living.

# Packing & Disposal – Now is the perfect time to cut back on what you have to do. Think about what you need to bring with you and what you can sell or give to charity. If you are packing yourself, get the boxes, tape, suitcases, bubble wrap, etc. that you will need.

# Insurance – We can help you get insurance for your stuff. Just get in touch with us to talk about this choice.

# Bank, Credit & Debit Cards – Tell your bank(s) about your new address.

# Documentation – Make sure you’ve sent us all the right paperwork via email. We can help you with most of this, but if you’re not sure, just ask for advice. We can’t move you if you don’t have the right paperwork.

# Settle Your Balance – You may have already done this during the booking process, but if you still owe money, you need to pay it now.

# Exchange Currency –If you want to change a lot of money, we can help you figure out the best way to do it.

# Subscriptions –Remember to let everyone know about your new address. This could include, say, a TV subscription.

# Doctor/Dentist –Make sure you stop seeing your current dentist and start looking for a new one as soon as you get to your new home.

# Local Authority/Council – Tell the appropriate people that you are leaving.

# Mail – Set up a redirect with the national mail service for your country.

# Driving License – Tell the appropriate vehicle office that your address has changed, and if you need to, register your vehicle.

# Children – Make sure the school knows when you will be leaving.

# Pets – If you need to, find other places for your pets to live.
