Many people are surprised by how much it move to a new country right away. You need money for deposits and to support yourself and your family until you find work and open a bank account in the new country.

You may need to send money from home to abroad right from the start of the process of moving abroad. After all, cash is not a good way to send money to a lot of places. But how can that be? Let’s look at some of the most effective ways to do this.

How to Move Money Abroad Cheaply

Most of the time, there is no easy answer to this. Often, the best way to make sure you’re getting the best deal is to compare all of the options. It might also be a good idea to transfer large amounts in small, regular payments, but this will depend on how the money is sent. If you don’t compare prices, you might pay a lot more than you need to.

International Bank Transfer

An international bank transfer is one of the most common ways to send money to another country. It is also called a wire transfer or telegraphic transfer. Depending on the country of the recipient, this can be done by a bank or a private money transfer company in about 4 business days. If you are moving to Europe, it is usually faster to send money there than to send it to another continent. Legally, there are no limits on how much money you can send abroad. However, your bank may have its own limits.

There are, however, fees that come with sending money abroad. Money transfers usually have a fee that is either a flat rate or a percentage of the amount being sent. This fee is usually taken by the company or bank doing the transfer. On top of that, these organizations often offer bad exchange rates, which is a less obvious cost. Usually, you have to call or log in on the day to find out how much your money will be worth in the country you’re sending it to.

Bank-to-Bank Transfers

Some banks will let you send money internationally to other banks that are connected to them. Usually, these are branches of the same company. If the two accounts can talk to each other, this can be the cheapest way to send money overseas or pay a friend who lives abroad. This method can sometimes only be used in certain countries, like those in the EU. If this is possible, it can be a safe, free, and quick way to send money overseas. Make sure to read the service’s terms and conditions before using it.

Specialist Currency Brokers

If you want to send money abroad, you can also use the help of a currency broker. These companies buy and sell large amounts of foreign currency to offer competitive exchange rates, which are often within 1% of the rate that banks charge each other to borrow money. Along with good exchange rates, these companies can often send money without charging fees. The only fee you will have to pay is the margin they set for their exchange rates.

If you are using a specialist broker, you should try to bargain or negotiate with the sender. If you transfer money often or a large amount all at once, this is often a good place to start negotiating, since the company has more to gain. Always look for the best deal by shopping around.

Pre-plan

If you plan your move abroad as far in advance as possible, you’ll not only get the best rates, but you’ll also have a choice of when to ship your things. It will also give you time to figure out how much your move overseas will cost.

Take fewer items

Think carefully about what you bring with you, and if you don’t need it, don’t bring it! Larger pieces of furniture, like sofas and chests of drawers, might be cheaper to buy new when you get to your new home than to ship halfway around the world.

Also, think about where you will live when you move. Is there enough room for all of your things? If it’s a serviced apartment, it may already have everything you need, so all you need to bring are your clothes and a few personal items. This will cut down on shipping costs by a lot.

If you are only going to be living abroad for a few months or a few years, storage can be a cheap way to keep the things you can’t take with you safe.

Choose the right shipping option

The World Bank says that shipping by air is usually 12–16 times more expensive than shipping by sea, and this is usually the case. Airfreight is great for things you need quickly, but it can be much cheaper to send your things in a shipping container on a ship than by plane.

# If you choose groupage shipping for your international move, you can save even more money. This means that your shipment goes in the same box as other people’s.

Health insurance

Most countries require expats to have private health insurance as part of their entry requirements, so shop around for the best prices and plans for you and your family.

Foreign currency

You’ll also need to think about the exchange of money. Choosing the right company to send money to another country can save you money. We suggest that you use Global Reach to save money when you send money abroad.

Moving your pets

Again, it’s best to start this process as soon as possible because you may need to get your pet vaccinated and keep it in quarantine for a while. There will also be a lot of paperwork to take care of. There are many pet shipping companies that can help make sure your dog, cat, or chinchilla’s trip is as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Car rental

Get help from experts in car rental before you book a car. They can save you a lot of money on your car needs.

Set up your own flights ahead of time

Don’t forget that you also have to get to the new country!  For short-haul flights, you should look seven weeks ahead of time, and for long-haul flights, you should look 18 weeks ahead of time. Sunday is often the best day of the week to buy tickets, while Wednesday is often the worst. If you can fly on Tuesday instead of Saturday, you’ll save money.

Move Personal Effects into the United Kingdom from UAE

Personal and household items from Dubai can be brought into the UK without having to pay Customs Duty or VAT (Value Added Tax). This can happen if you have lived outside the UK for at least a year before you move, if you have owned and used your things for at least six months before you leave, and if you are allowed to live in the UK.

Things to look out for when moving to United Kingdom

After looking at the budget and time frame for moving to the UK, the best way to get there will be suggested. At the moment, we offer the following moving services all over the UK:

# Air freight via London Heathrow
# Groupage / Shared Shipments via Felixstowe / Tilbury / Southampton / London Gateway
# LCL (Less than Container Load) via Felixstowe / Southampton
# FCL (Full Container Load) via Felixstowe / Southampton / London Gateway

AIR FREIGHT

Within two days of being packed, the airfreight shipment is usually picked up, put in a box, and lifted by an aeroplane. The whole trip takes less than a day, but getting through customs in the UK could take up to 4 days. This is the fastest way to move from Dubai, but it also costs the most.

LCL – LESS THAN CONTAINER LOAD SHIPMENTS

If you don’t have enough items to fill a 20ft Shipping Container and don’t have time to wait for us to fill a groupage container, we will usually give you a quote for an LCL service. After packing is done at Origin, your goods will be sent to our freight forwarder, who has a weekly sailing schedule. LCL shipping from Dubai is a cheap way to send small packages that are too important to wait for groupage shipping but not important enough to send by air freight. We think this is the second most expensive way to ship goods from Dubai to the UK.

FCL – FULL CONTAINER LOAD SHIPMENTS

When you have more than half a 20-foot container’s worth of goods, FCL shipments are the most cost-effective way to send them. Because we book the whole container for your goods and there are no freight forwarders involved, this is the case. There is no extra work to be done. That is, the container will be brought to your home at Origin and loaded there. Then it will be sealed and sent out. It will be at your home or destination the next time you see it (if access permits). This is different from LCL shipping, where containers have to be put together at the origin and taken apart at the destination, which often takes more time.

GROUPAGE SHIPPING

Groupage shipping is by far the most affordable way to send smaller packages (less than half a 20ft Container) to the UK. Shipments are packed and kept in our warehouse until we have enough to fill a container going to the UK. Most of the time, the wait time at Origin is between 4 and 8 weeks. This is for packages that don’t need to be sent right away. Some of our customers use this option to ship the bulk of their goods and then book a very small Air freight shipment to make sure their most important items get there on time.

Groupage shipping can save you a lot of money if you don’t mind waiting a few weeks for your luggage to be sent. Most shipments sent by airfreight are put in crates and picked up by an aeroplane within two days. The whole thing can take up to 4 days, but this is the fastest way to do it.

Melbourne is the centre of Australia’s sports, arts, and culture. Also, it is a tech and transportation hub in Australia, with trains and trams (also called cable cars) making it easy for most people to get to and from the city.

Brits will know most about Melbourne from the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours, which is set there. Even though the plots are silly, what you see on the screen is a pretty accurate picture of family life in Melbourne.

The city has a very diverse economy and population, which has led to a huge variety of food, entertainment, nightlife, and subcultures. It also benefits from Australia’s warm climate and good public services.

Melbourne is one of the oldest cities in Australia. It was also the first gold rush town in Australia. In the 1850s, when gold was found in the area, it caused a boom in business that made Melbourne the richest city in the world and a population boom that made it Australia’s biggest city. At the start of the 20th century, Melbourne was one of the most important cities in Australia. It was so important that it was the first place where the government of the Australian Federation met.

Because of all of its history, Melbourne has beautiful Victorian architecture and town planning that few other cities and towns in Australia can match. Melbourne is a great place to live because it has wide streets and big public parks. Its location on a natural harbour at the mouth of the Yarra River makes it even more appealing.

Comparing Melbourne to London

When you get to Melbourne, you’ll see why. It has many of the great things about London, like world-class restaurants and art galleries, but it also has great beaches and waterways that are fun in the Australian summer and sun.

People from London who move to Melbourne will have a much better quality of life, and it’s not just because of the sun. People who live in Melbourne have better health care, can buy homes for less money, spend less time traveling, and see less pollution.

But they also have to pay more to live. Prices for consumer goods, food, cell phones, and the internet are all higher, and groceries can cost up to 40% more.

Transferring money to Melbourne

If you’re thinking about moving to Australia, you’ll probably need to change some of your British pounds into Australian dollars.

Why move to Melbourne

The Economist Intelligence Unit says it is the best place to live in the world. It is one of several Australian cities that made the list of the top 10 places to live.

Sydney, which is to the north of Melbourne, has always made fun of Melbourne for not having a harbor. However, Melbourne is next to the world-class Port Phillip Bay. With a deepest point of only 200 meters, it has been a great place for divers, sailors, and swimmers who want to spend their summers in the Bay to start.

Also, surfers may not be able to get many rides in the bay, but there are a number of great surf beaches just a short drive outside of Melbourne. In particular, Bells Beach is known as a stop on the World Surfing Tour and is a regular destination for Melburnians who want to surf in the evening or on the weekend.

Jobs aplenty

At the moment, Melbourne’s business and job sectors are going through a number of interesting and exciting changes. Sydney is Australia’s oldest city, but Melbourne is the one that is growing the fastest. It is expected to become Australia’s largest city soon, and a number of international companies are putting their headquarters in the city’s busy economy.

In addition to its arts and culture, the city is the tech capital of Australia. It also has the most educational providers in the country, making its universities and tertiary sector a strong draw for jobs.

Sport

With its mix of local and international sports events, Melbourne has been Australia’s sports capital for a long time. The Formula One Grand Prix, the Australian Open tennis finals, and the Melbourne Cup horse race are all held in the city. The WWE, UFC, and even the Premier League also make regular stops in the city.

In fact, English clubs Liverpool and Manchester United have drawn 100,000 people to a friendly match in the past few years. Melbourne is a city where any sports fan, no matter how unique or far away from home, can easily find a local club or fan group to hang out with every week.

Culture

In terms of culture, Melbourne can really compete with London in terms of quantity, even if it can’t quite match London in terms of quality. The Victorian state capital has more going on than most other Australian cities.

Many people think of Melbourne as the cultural centre of Australia. It’s where the Australian Ballet, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and a number of well-known theatres are based. It’s also the centre of the Australian film industry, and the world’s first feature films were made there.

There is a lot of street art and live music, as well as international film and music festivals, a fringe festival, and great 19th-century architecture, like the Royal Exhibition Building in the Carlton Gardens, which is a World Heritage Site.

Climate

Britons who move to Melbourne will find the weather familiar, but it will take some time to get used to. Overall, the weather in Melbourne is very easy to deal with. The winters are cold but not freezing, and the summers are hot but don’t usually get too hot.

Many Londoners know that it rains a lot in Melbourne during the winter and early spring, with October being the wettest month of the year. However, the city is also known for the saying “four seasons in a day.”

So, many Melburnians dress for work in a way that gives them options. For example, they might wear a light coat on the train in the morning, but take it off and their tie off at the end of the day to sit at a bar and enjoy the evening sun.

Visas and work permits for Melbourne

Moving from the UAE to Melbourne may be a long trip, but the best time to start getting ready is before you leave. This is especially true if you are moving to Australia for work, in which case you should make sure your employer sponsors your application for residency, and if you want to apply for permanent residency or even citizenship.

Whether you’re staying for a short time or a long time, it’s a good idea to let the consulate know you’re in town. The British Consulate in Melbourne is at 17, 90 Collins St. in the city center.

People say that Perth is “Australia’s largest town”. It looks like a city because it is a city, but it has the laid-back vibe of a much smaller place. Compared to Melbourne and Sydney, which are always busy, Perth is a lot less busy. Only 2 million people live there, which is a very small number for Australia. This means that you can walk through the centre of the city without bumping into anyone. The pace of life on the West Coast is slower than on the East Coast, but that’s part of what makes Perth so great. It’s an up-and-coming city with a lot of sunshine, beautiful beaches, and world-class wine. We’re sure you can’t wait to start. Read on to learn more about moving to Perth and how people live there.

Cost of emigrating to Perth

The Port of Fremantle is the largest container port in Perth. Check out these prices for shipping from London to Fremantle, which come from WorldFreightRates.com. The rates are based on moving a full container of household goods worth £40,000 (or $55,000), which is about the average value of what’s in a three-bedroom house.

Please note: Add-ons like professional packing and unpacking, door-to-door delivery, and basic insurance coverage are not included in these prices. Most of our shipping suppliers include these services in their prices, so you can expect their quotes to be higher than the ones here.

Healthcare

Perth getting you down? Not a problem. Australia has a popular health care system called Medicare, which is similar to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). It is made up of both public and private services, and people pay 2% of their income as a tax to pay for it. You only have to pay part of the levy, though, if your after-tax income is less than AUD$27,475 and you don’t have to pay anything at all if your after-tax income is less than AUD$21,980.

Medicare pays for all of your necessary medical care and part of the cost of visits to your doctor. After that, people need private health insurance to pay for any further care, including ambulance rides.

Australia also has an RHA (Reciprocal Health Agreement) with a number of countries, including the UK. This means that when you go to Australia, you can use Medicare just like any other Australian, and when you go to the UK, Australians can do the same with the NHS. Even though this is the case, you still need to have private health insurance before you can enter Australia.

We recommend Cigna if you are looking for private health insurance for your new life in Perth. Cigna will help you find a plan that works for you and your family. You can choose from four levels of annual coverage and add-on modules for more options.

A little bit of geography

Perth is on the southwest coast of Australia, which is the exact opposite side of the country from all the other big cities. It is in the huge state of Western Australia, which takes up about a third of the whole country. The city itself is famously flat and has a coastline on the Indian Ocean and the Swan River. The beaches in Perth are very nice (think turquoise water and white sand).

Perth is one of the most isolated cities on Earth, which is a sad fact. Adelaide, which is a huge 1,324 miles away, is the closest big city (one with more than 100,000 people). People from Perth can get to Jakarta, Indonesia, faster than they can get to Sydney, which is more than 2,000 miles away.

A little bit of history

The Aborigines were the first people to live there. Experts think that people have lived in Perth for almost 40,000 years. The Brits moved to Perth on June 4, 1829, which is why the first Monday in June is a public holiday in Western Australia every year. Someone saw the hot sun and white sand and thought it looked like Scotland, so Perth was named after a city in Scotland.

Cost of living in Perth

By international standards, all of Australia’s big cities are on the expensive side. Even though it’s cheaper than its big brothers on the east coast, Perth is also a big city. The 2016 census showed that the median weekly income for people over 15 was AUD$949, and the median weekly rent was AUD£430. See the table below to get an idea of how much it costs to live in Perth.

Visas for Perth

Check if you can get a visa before you get too excited about going to Perth. If you’re from the UK and want to visit Perth for a short time, it’s not too hard, but if you want to live there long-term, it’s not as easy. You can read about a huge number of different types of visas.

Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

If you have a British passport, you can get an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visa for Australia for free. Whoopee! The ETA visa lets you come into the country for up to 90 days more than once in a year. If you decide to stay in Oz because you like it so much, you’ll need a proper working visa.

Skilled migration visa

The Australians keep a list of skills that are in demand that is always up to date. If you have them, they will want them. Keep an eye on the Australian Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and the Australian Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and see if anything stands out. You can make an Expression of Interest (EOI) on SkillSelect if you think you can help with any of their skills shortages. After that, it’s up to a state in Australia to put you forward.

Sponsored work visa

This one is for you if nothing on the STSOL or MLTSSL is quite right. You need to be sponsored by a licenced Australian employer, which means you need to find a job first. This will likely involve a lot of online job searching and a few late-night Skype interviews, but if you really want to start a new life in Australia, it’s worth all the hard work. See the bottom of the page for tips on how to look for a job in Perth.

Who lives in Perth?

Who are these people? People from all walks of life live in the city.

During the 2016 Australian census, which was the most recent one, we learned some pretty cool things about how different the people of Perth are. Only 34.7% of people living there said they were born in Australia, which is a long way from the national average of 66.7%. People from all over the world are happy to live in Perth. After Australia, the most common countries of birth were England (5.4%), China (4%), India (2.6%), New Zealand (2.5%), and Malaysia (2.3%).

There are also a lot of different languages, mostly from Southeast Asian countries. After English, Mandarin (6.6%), Cantonese (2.3%), Italian (2.3%), Korean (2%) and Vietnamese (1.7%) are the next most common languages. It’s not a surprise that Asian food in Perth is great. Check out our list of the best places to eat in Perth at the bottom of this page.

Climate

Perth has the most sunny weather in Australia. With about 2,300 hours of sunlight each year, Perth has the most of any of the country’s major cities. You know where to go if you want to get a nice tan.

From December to February, summer is one big blast of heat. Most of the time, the temperature is between 17.5°C and 30°C, but it has been known to reach 40°C. The “Fremantle doctor,” the breeze from the ocean that blows through the seaside town of Fremantle, helps cool things down a lot. It rarely rains.

In the fall, from March to May, things calm down a bit. The weather is nicer, with temperatures between 13°C and 26°C, and it rains more.

From June to August, when you are having winter, your friends in the UK are having summer. The winters in Perth are pretty mild, with daytime temperatures usually between 8°C and 19°C. But if the cold Antarctic air blows in at night, it can get pretty cold. A sad fact is that it has never snowed in Perth.

In the spring (September to November), wildflowers bloom all over Perth’s parks and nature reserves. This is the best time to see the city in full bloom. You’ll also notice that the weather is getting warmer. Most days, the temperature will be between 11°C and 23°C.

Getting around the city

The city of Perth is very flat and small, which doesn’t sound like much, but it makes it easy to walk around. Over a quarter of Perth residents said they walked to work in the 2016 census, which is a lot more than the national average of 3.5%. But not everyone wakes up with a spring in their step. Sometimes, all you need is a little public transportation to get you going. Here’s what you can do in Perth.

Public transport

You should know about Transperth, the company that runs almost all of Perth’s public transportation. In the middle of the city, Transperth has set up a Free Transit Zone (FTZ) where all public transportation is free.

Get a SmartRider card if you’re going to live in Perth for good. It costs $10 AUD to buy, and then you just add credit to it. It’s 15% cheaper than buying single tickets, and there’s a limit on how much you can spend each day.

Central Area Transit (CAT) is a very colourful bus system, so the buses are called “CATs” by people who like them. They come in red, blue, yellow, and green, and some of them are painted with huge black cats on the side. Who said that riding the bus can’t be fun? Since the CATs go to the Free Transit Zone, you can use them for free.

Trains are a given in Perth. They go to the city’s outer suburbs, which is helpful for people who live farther away from the center. Those that go through the FTZ are, of course, free to use. Here is a map of the train system.

You can also take the ferry from the north side of the city to the south side to cross the Swan River. Between Elizabeth Quay Jetty and Mends Street Jetty, a ferry leaves every 20 to 30 minutes. At the very least, it’s a nice way to see the city.

Driving a car

Even though Perth has a great public transportation system, people love to drive their cars. According to the 2016 census, 33% of residents drove to work, so you’ll have some company on the roads. If you are only in Perth for a short time as a tourist, you can drive with a valid UK licence. But if you plan to stay in Perth for the rest of your life, you will need a real Australian driver’s licence after three months. Go Aussie or go home!

Airports

In the city, there are two airports: Jandakot Airport and Perth Airport. Most commercial flights land at Perth Airport, so there’s not much point in knowing about the other one. The airport is about 10 km east of the city centre and can be reached by Transperth buses. It is the fourth busiest airport in Australia in terms of passenger traffic.

Best neighbourhoods in Perth

“Living in Perth” sounds great, but it’s not very clear what it means. Where are you going to live in Perth? We’ve chosen some of our favourite neighbourhoods in Perth for you to think about. It all depends on whether you want to be close to parks, the beach, or the centre of the city. According to Reiwa, a real estate company in Western Australia, the median price of a house in Perth in March 2018 was AUD$515,000.

Fremantle

Fremantle, also known as “Freo,” used to be a rough port town on the edge of Perth. It is southwest of the city center. Now that the city has grown, Freo has turned into another suburb and gotten a lot nicer. The streets are full of beautiful buildings from the colonial era, so it’s a nice break from how modern the city centre of Perth is. There are a lot of unique shops, cafes with coffee made by hand, and outdoor cafes. It’s a great piece of continental Europe on Australia’s east coast. Freo is a popular destination for tourists, so you’ll have to get used to seeing them. The median price of a home in Freo is AUD$785,000 right now.

Cottesloe

A few miles north of Fremantle is the seaside neighbourhood of Cottesloe, which is known for its beautiful beach. The beach is over a kilometre long and has pearly white sand. It’s a great place for people to relax at the end of the day. There is also a great promenade with shops, cafes, and bars. The best homes in Cottesloe are, as you might expect, the ones right by the water. Imagine walking out into your backyard and seeing the Indian Ocean. (Source: Reiwa) The median price of a home in Cottesloe is a high AUD$2,155,000, but you get what you pay for. Scarborough is a popular beach town in Perth, but it has nothing to do with the English town of the same name.

Mount Helena

This one is for families who are looking for something a little bit cheaper. Mount Helena is about 35 km east of Perth. It doesn’t have any beaches because it’s so far away. Instead, it has more green space than you could ever use. If you live in Mount Helena, the beautiful Leschenaultia Conservation Park is right outside your door, and the huge Beelu National Park is just to the north. If you have kids to raise, it’s important to give them a place to run around and be free. When you move away from the centre, you get less noise and more peace and quiet. Also, the prices of homes are much lower. The median price of a house in Mount Helena right now is AUD$470,000.

Finding a job in Perth

Services are a big deal in Perth. According to the 2016 census, more people in Perth worked in professional, scientific, and technical services (14%) than in any other industry. The next most popular were housing and food services (13.6%), followed by healthcare and social assistance (10.5%).

Almost every big company in Australia has a branch office in Perth, so there are lots of chances to work for the big dogs. Some of the biggest international mining companies, like BHP BILLITON, have their headquarters in Perth.

If you want to find a job in Perth, you should start your search online. There are a lot of helpful things out there. Check out Hays and Adzuna, which are both Australian job sites with sections about Perth. There are also helpful recruitment agencies in Perth, such as All Star Recruitment, that can help you.

Things to do in Perth

For a city that’s so far away, it’s pretty important that Perth has things to do. On the bright side, you’ll never be bored on the west coast. Everyone has things to do on the weekends, and there are plenty of things to do in Perth. Also, since it’s always sunny, you can (almost) always go to the beach. Check out some of the things we like to do the most in Perth.

Enjoy the Swan River

The Swan River is very important to the people of Perth. It runs right through the middle of the city and looks beautiful while giving everyone something to do. Some people sail and jet ski on the river, while others take ferry rides and fish. You can also go a few miles up the river until you reach the Swan Valley, which is a beautiful green area with wineries that are known all over the world. Or, you can go down the river until you reach the Indian Ocean. If you tell the Swan River what you want, it will give it to you.

Go to Rottnest Island

What about a quokka? It’s a cute, fluffy marsupial that lives almost only in Western Australia. It’s so cute! They live on Rottnest Island, which means “rat’s nest” in Dutch because the first Dutch person who saw them thought they were big rats. The island is only 19 km away, and you can get there by ferry. A lot of famous people have gone there to take selfies with the quokkas, which are known for their happy faces. Rottnest Island is also a great place to sunbathe on beaches, snorkel over coral reefs, and dive through shipwrecks.

Explore the Pinnacles

The Pinnacles is Australia’s most unusual national park. It’s a bunch of tall, sharp rocks in the middle of a desert, and people love it. These limestone spires can be found in Nambung National Park, which is three hours by car from the city. It may sound like a lot of work, but it involves driving along the Indian Ocean Drive, which is one of the most beautiful car trips in Australia.

Check out the Fremantle markets

We did say that there are a lot of tourists in Freo. From the artsy streets to the old markets, the historic port town is a great place to walk around. Fremantle Markets have been around since 1897. They sell everything from designer clothes to fresh fish and vegetables. When you’re done with all the bohemian cafes, you can go to Freo beach for some sand and sea.

Where to eat in Perth

Perth has some of the best food in Australia. Here are some of the best places to fill your stomach.

Sayers Sister (236 Lake St, Northbridge, Perth)

Want a good breakfast done right? Go to Sayers Sister, a hidden gem in the Northridge neighborhood. It just opened in 2012, but it’s already a big part of life in Perth. People from the area and from other places go there for good food. Because there is a long concrete table in the middle of the cafe, there is a lot of talking and meeting new people. There is also a lot of stylish decor, like bare brick walls, sleek metal chairs, and big lanterns that hang from the ceiling. The baked apple waffles, leek and parmesan croquettes, pan-fried gnocchi, and seared barramundi are some of the best things on the menu.

Friends Restaurant (Hyatt Centre, Fortescue Centre, Perth)

It sounds like this place is based on a popular US sitcom, but it’s way too fancy for that. If you want to eat a meal with a view of the Swan River and jazz music, you can go to Friends Restaurant. The idea is to have a “sophisticated but friendly” experience, with fine art on the walls and very friendly service. We suggest going all out and ordering the AUD$285 eight-course degustation menu, where each dish comes with a five-star wine. The food tour includes sauteed pumpkin, kangaroo loin fillet, and the very popular chestnut and Manjimup truffle soup. You’ll often see the owner happily grating truffle onto people’s meals as he or she walks around the restaurant.

Wok & Ladle (Shop 8 232 Hay St, Perth)

Go to the Wok & Ladle if you want something a little cheaper and less Australian. Locals in Perth love this tiny Thai cafe because it serves amazing food and does business very quickly. Since you have to bring your own alcohol, the off-license across the street is very useful. Classic Red and Green curries from The Wok & Ladle are delicious, but you should also try their pad thai, peppercorn squid, and “Drunken Noodle.”

Perth nightlife

There’s no reason to spend all of Perth’s nice, warm evenings inside because the city is full of fun bars and clubs. Here are a few of our favourite places to go out at night in the city.

The Ellington Jazz Club (191 Beaufort St, Perth)

Do you like jazz? Of course you do! The Ellington Jazz Club has a lot going on all the time. There are shows there seven nights a week, and each year there are about 600 of them. Jazz is always going on. So that people can stop by after work, they have special sets in the early evening. The place is pretty small, quiet, dimly lit, and has a great vibe. Once you sit down (or stand up, because there aren’t many tables), you’ll feel more like you’re in a 1960s American speakeasy than a bar in Perth, Australia, in the 21st century. There is some food, like pizza and cheese platters, but most people go there to hear the ice-cool jazz.

Hula Bula Bar (12 Victoria Ave, Perth)

The Hula Bula Bar is in the basement of a small building on Victoria Avenue. It calls itself “a tropical paradise in the heart of Perth.” This place doesn’t mess around when it comes to Hawaiian-style decor. The variety of flowers, plants, beach huts, tiki masks, and wooden carvings is mind-blowing. It’s a party shack from the Pacific Islands right in the middle of Perth. The bartenders are all wearing Hawaiian shirts and are very good at making extra-sweet rum drinks. There is Tiki Tuesday, Island Night Wednesday (for reggae fans), and Rhum Club Thursday every week.

Jack Rabbit Slim’s (133 Aberdeen St, Perth)

If this place’s name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s also the name of that diner in the movie Pulp Fiction. It has the same kind of furniture from 1950s American diners. The seats are red leather, the floor is black and white checkered, and the walls are covered with old American ads. But this is more than just a place to eat. If you walk through the diner, you’ll end up in a loud club with neon lights. The venue is open every day until 5 a.m. and has a lot of bands and DJs playing there. If this isn’t enough for you, the club also has a room with old-school arcade games in the back. When you drink one of the alcoholic milkshakes, you’ll feel both drunk and full of sugar.

Expat communities in Perth

We know that moving to a new city can be hard at first. Because of this, you might want to talk to people who have done the same thing you have. The answer is online forums, which put you in touch with other expats who are happy to give you advice. Check out the forums for Perth Poms and Internations to see who can help you.

Adelaide, in the south of Australia, has come a long way and now has one of the top five highest standards of living in the world. Adelaide is a very appealing place to live if you like sports, art, food, or are just looking for a safe place to raise a family.

Adelaide City is on a plain on the south coast of Australia. It has a Mediterranean climate, which makes it a good place to grow grapes for making wine. The warm weather and low rainfall also make Adelaide a great place for parties and events that happen all year long in its wide streets, big public parks, and leafy suburbs.

The “20-minute city” has rolling hills, beautiful beaches, national parks, wildlife reserves, and vineyards all within a half-hour drive of the city center. This is why Adelaide is often listed as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

People who want to move to Australia have long been drawn to big cities like Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. However, you should look a little further southwest.

If you want to move abroad, Adelaide is one of the best places to do so.

Healthcare in Adelaide

Before you move to Adelaide, you should think about how you will pay for medical care there.

So, we have teamed up with Cigna to offer private health insurance in Adelaide. Cigna will find you a plan that fits your needs. There are four levels of annual coverage to choose from, and you can add extra modules for more flexibility.

Job market

Even though unemployment rates have been going up recently, there are still plenty of jobs in Adelaide for people with the right skills. Oil, gas, and car factories are no longer the best places to find work, and OzMinerals, a big mining company, just announced that it will move from Melbourne to Adelaide.

Healthcare, manufacturing, and social services are all industries that are growing quickly and should be the first ones that expats look into. People with experience in ICT, education, and accounting are in high demand, while sales and hospitality are always looking for new employees.

Being able to speak English well is definitely a plus, and knowing other languages can open up new doors.

Living costs

Even though a family’s average weekly income in Adelaide is slightly less than the national average, the cost of living is the lowest in the country. For example, in Adelaide, the same level of living that would cost you 7,000 AUD in Sydney would only cost you 5,950 AUD.

The cost of renting in Adelaide is almost 40% less than it is in Sydney, and so are the costs of transportation, utilities, and the internet.

Adelaide also has the cheapest average gas prices in Australia, the cheapest movie tickets, the cheapest gym memberships, and – drum roll, please – the cheapest beer prices in Australia.

If you’re thinking about moving to Australia, you’ll probably need to change some of your British pounds into Australian dollars.

Property Information

The property market in Adelaide is definitely on the rise. This is due in large part to major infrastructure projects like the building of hospitals, schools, and sports facilities, as well as the expansion of rail and road networks. In the past few years, there has been a big rise in the number of homes sold in Adelaide. The areas on the edge of the city are growing the fastest.

The style of Adelaide’s homes has also changed a lot in recent years. In the past, most homes were single-story detached homes on 1/4-acre lots, but in the last few decades, there has been a sharp rise in the number of blocks of units.

Neighbourhood Picks

No matter where in Adelaide you decide to live, you are in for a real treat. There are more than 700 hectares of city parks, and this is one of the safest cities in Australia.

Your needs and way of life will determine the best neighbourhood for you. Here are a few good places to look into:

Family-friendly

Athelstone is a beautiful neighbourhood with schools, parks, and streets lined with trees. It is close to the beautiful Blackhill Conservation Park and the Torrens River.

Evandale’s leafy, tree-lined streets are the perfect place for a young family to grow and thrive because they are safe, friendly, and close to the city centre.

O’Halloran Hill is a quiet, safe, and friendly suburb with a strong sense of community. There are many parks nearby and a wide range of surprising low-cost housing options.

Upmarket

Hyde Park is a wealthy suburb with streets lined with trees and some of the oldest and most beautiful homes in the city. It’s no surprise that this is also one of the most expensive suburbs in Adelaide.

Unley is a pricey neighbourhood with some of Adelaide’s best-known boutique shops, as well as cute cafes, fine dining, and some of the most beautiful green spaces in the city.

Burnside is a neighbourhood in eastern Adelaide that is only 5 minutes from the city centre. It has a unique mix of expensive homes, high-end services, and a village-like feel.

Hip and trendy

Brompton is a hipster paradise because it has lots of cheap bars, restaurants, and second-hand shops. This bohemian part of town is also easy to get to on public transportation.

Glenelg has been known for a long time as a beachside oasis. In recent years, it has become more trendy, with young and hip people drawn to its independent shops, cheap rentals, and artsy vibe.

Henley Beach has an interesting mix of limestone houses, flats with a retro look, and ultra-modern restaurants. In the past few years, this area has been a big draw for people who set the trends.

Up and coming

Highbury is a quiet neighbourhood with streets lined with trees. It has a good mix of old and new homes and is halfway between the Adelaide CBD and the Adelaide Hills.

Stirling is a beautiful suburb in the Adelaide Hills. It is a little farther from the city centre (CBD), but if peace and quiet are more important to you than going out, this is the place for you.

North Plympton is a town in Devon, England. North Plympton is 6 km from the city centre and 6 km from the beach. It is close to schools, shops, and public transportation, and it has some of the most affordable housing in the city.

There are lots of things to do, like cocktail bars, nightclubs, live theatre, comedy shows, and dance performances. If you want to see live music, you can find anything from rock and metal to hip hop almost every night of the week.

Adelaide also has some of the best restaurants in the world, with a wide range of local beer, wine, and food. There are festivals almost every month of the year, with the Adelaide Fringe and WOMADdelaide festivals being two of the best.

Schools and education

Adelaide is known as “Australia’s Learning City”. It has about 440 schools, most of which are private, public, or religious. There are also International Schools, but there aren’t as many as there are in some other big cities, so there aren’t as many spots.

Everyone gets a good education, and the biggest difference between schools is whether they teach boys, girls, or both.

Universities in Adelaide

When it comes to secondary education, Adelaide has a huge number of great options. There is a large network of community colleges as well as schools that focus on business, trade, and hospitality.

Adelaide is also home to six universities that are among the best in the world.

  • The University of Adelaide (Ranked 164) – Specialties include Food and Wine, Health Sciences, IT, Social Sciences and Environmental Sciences.
  • The University of South Australia (Ranked 276) – Specialties include Medical Science, Commercial Law, Journalism, Engineering and Aboriginal Policy.
  • Flinders University (Ranked 481) – Specialties include Education, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Science, Nursing and Engineering.

Carnegie Mellon University Australia and University College London Australia also have campuses in Adelaide

Rankings against the world

When compared to the rest of the world, Adelaide more than holds its own. This is shown by the fact that the city has always done well in The Economist’s survey of the “most liveable cities in the world.” This year, Adelaide came in at #5.

Adelaide has the best collection of Southeast Asian ceramics and the largest collection of Australian Aboriginal artefacts in the world. It has a world-class electronics industry and is home to Santos, Australia’s largest oil company, and Argo Investments Limited, Australia’s second largest listed investment company.

About 30% of the people who live in Adelaide were born outside of Australia. This makes it one of the most culturally diverse cities in Australia, and Schutzenfest is the largest folk festival in the southern hemisphere.

Adelaide also has a long and proud history of religious tolerance, making it one of the best places in the world for people from any background to start a new life.

A day in the life

Imagine living in a city where the air is clean, the cost of living is low, and there are beautiful parks everywhere; where the local beach isn’t crowded with people; and where you can enjoy arts, culture, and entertainment every day of the week.

Do you wish you could afford to own your own home in a safe neighbourhood where you actually know your neighbors? Where you can walk or ride to work and end each day with a meal made from locally grown food and a glass of world-class wine?

Your dream life is waiting for you in Adelaide, and there has never been a better time to make the move.move to Australia.
