Who may import Personal Effects into New Zealand?
If you have proof that you’re allowed to live in NZ, you might not have to pay duties and GST on household items, personal items, vehicles, and boats. This includes having a passport from Australia or New Zealand, a residence visa or permit from New Zealand, or a permanent residence visa. Some work visas may also let you bring in things without paying duties or GST.
What is Biosecurity and how does it affect me?
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is in charge of keeping pests and diseases from getting into New Zealand’s natural resources, plants, animals, and people. More people than ever want to visit or move to New Zealand, which makes it more likely that unwanted pests and diseases will get there. Pests and diseases can get into New Zealand through personal and household items. To keep this from happening, there are strict rules about what people can send or bring into the country. MPI looks at all shipments of goods coming into the country by checking the paperwork and, if necessary, checking the goods themselves. If risky items are found, they can be treated, reshipped, or destroyed (at the owner’s cost). It’s important to know everything about the requirements, so you need to talk to us to get up-to-date, detailed information.
Preparing your personal effects for shipping
Some things you can’t bring into New Zealand because of strict biosecurity laws, and other things will need to be checked when you get there.
We will help with MPI requirements because we are a professional moving company.
MPI will be able to quickly check your things when they arrive in New Zealand if you give them an accurate and easy-to-understand manifest.
By putting together goods that may need to be inspected, we can save money and time. If things are being sent by sea, we will make sure that the container meets the Import Health Standard for Sea Containers.
